closer to normal

Well, I forced myself to get out of the house this past few days and do a couple of fun things. The Phoenix Open golf tourney is in town, and while I do not feel healed enough to spend an entire day on the course with the gallery, I did find time Thursday night to go to the after-party @ the Bird's Nest and take in a band - Collective Soul. I have liked them for a long time, and true to form, they put on a good show. The weather was nice, and a good crowd on hand as well.

Then on Saturday night, Caryl and I went a different route. The Parada del Sol rodeo was in town this week, so we went and watched that performance, and what a good one it was. Well, except for many of the riders, as the bulls and most of the horses won in last night's competition. Halftime was neat, though, as a guy came out and used his horse and a bullwhip to coax 2 buffalo around the arena, culminating in having them jump onto the back of a flat-bed truck and then up a ramp onto the top of a trailer! He and his horse then followed them up - quite a sight to see, to say the least. Alas, we forgot to take the camera, so no photos of this to show you :(

weekend in Tejas

Well, as my ankle is healing, I decided to test it a little with a weekend trip. My parents are doing the snowbird thing in south Texas, so last weekend I made a quick trip over to say hi. Having not seen them for a year now because of the wreck, I thought it fitting. Plus, I move no faster than them right now, so we were a good pace for each other. Not a lot to do in the border area, really, but they took me to see the last remaining hand drawn ferry in the US.

After that we went to a little place on the Rio Grande that served lunch and had live music. Apparently it is wildly popular with the snowbird crowd as it was packed. So we had lunch, listened to some music, and enjoyed the nice weather. On Sunday, it was a day of rest watching the NASCAR race, and then out to a good Mexican restaurant they knew of to dine. Not a fast-paced weekend, but just what I needed to get out but not overdo on the ankle. At least it is a start back to traveling, right ?!?!?!
